Hey there fellow foodies! Today, I had the pleasure of dining at Being on Grove in Richmond, VA. As soon as I walked in, I was caught off-guard by my partners friend (whom we had 0 idea worked there), and we were helped immediately. Although, I'm sure we would have been anyways, it was definitely a nice surprise! There was dim lighting, modern décor, and Miley Cyrus was playing in the background, and I remember that because we had been talking about that one song that's been playing on loop on every single radio station, TikTok, ad, etc.,.
But let's get to the main attraction – I give:
Beijing on Grove - 4.4 / 5 Rating.
It was an awesome experience and will 100% be revisiting in the near future. We had questioned how we hadn't ended up here in the past, but glad we did!
The first dish we ordered was the chili dumplings. I have to say, these were some of the best dumplings I've ever had. The filling was perfectly seasoned and had just the right amount of spice. The dough was thin and delicate, which allowed the flavors of the filling to shine through. The dish was beautifully presented and came doused in sauce that perfectly complemented the flavors of the dumplings. I normally would prefer to dump my own dumplings, but that is more or less me wanting control, I could not have dunked these and created the same flavor output at all.
Chili Dumplings @ $8.00 - 4.5 / 5 Rating
I did feel like they could have been a little bit larger. I found myself wanting more after just a few bites though!
Next up was the chef's signature dish – Chef Zhao's Chicken. The chicken was coated in a bright red sauce, and the bright green from the broccoli gave the whole dish a really colorful presentation. But I was pleasantly surprised by how well-balanced the flavors were. The sauce had just the right amount of heat, and the chicken was perfectly cooked – juicy and tender. The broccoli in dishes like this I normally get is kind of meh at best, almost mushy. But thankfully, they knew what they were doing and the Broccoli came threw with the crunch (thank you unsuspecting line cook).
Chef Zhao's Chicken @ $16.00 - 4.3 / 5 Rating
The only thing that kept it from being a bit higher of a score was it was basically just really good General Tso's Chicken. Which is absolutely not a bad thing, because I was super happy with it.
But overall, I had a fantastic dining experience at Being on Grove. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who is looking for delicious food in a cozy and welcoming atmosphere. Whether you're in the mood for dumplings or chicken, this restaurant has got you covered. Service was fast too! The place wasn't crowded, but it definitely wasn't empty. I liked how they had a ton of space to work with, so tables weren't cramped together.
Another thing that I appreciated about the restaurant was the use of fresh, high-quality ingredients, or that's what it tasted like at least! I can't imagine with how good it came out that they used anything substandard. It's clear that the chefs at Being on Grove are know what they're doing.
Overall, I would highly recommend Being on Grove to anyone who is looking for a fantastic dining experience. The food is top-notch, the atmosphere is cozy and inviting, and the service is friendly and attentive. Whether you're looking for a romantic dinner for two or a night out with friends, this restaurant is definitely worth a visit.
In conclusion, I would like to thank the team at Being on Grove for providing great food for a great date night. Looking forward to coming back to try some of the other dishes on the menu!
